Legislative Mission:

Ensure pay equity, equal educational and economic opportunities at all stages of life, support pension and social security reform; and promote affordable quality dependent care to help ensure economic self-sufficiency for women.

Equal Pay Day:

According to the 2006 Census Bureau, women on average earn 77 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts. For minority women, the wage gap worsens as African American women make 66 cents, Latinas make 55 cents and Asian American women make 80 cents. Each year, Wisconsin Women's Alliance members and advocates across the country organize Equal Pay Day activities and events in April to bring attention to the issue of pay equity. Equal Pay Day is held annually in April to signify the point into a year that a woman must work to earn what a man made the previous year.

Wisconsin's March on Madison:

Annually, Wisconsin Women's Alliance members go to the State Capital in Madison to meet with and share important information with our legislators regarding the issues we support and are important to ALL women in Wisconsin. In 2009, the march was held on April 28 in conjunction with Equal Pay Day.

The June 2008 Issue of Insight also has a "Gender Gap" article (page 19) that highlights and provides information regarding Equal Pay Day and March on Madison.

Wisconsin Women's Alliance Scorecard:

Welcome to Wisconsin Women's Alliance Legislative Scorecard. The purpose of the scorecard is to provide our members with the voting records of our State Legislators on the bills affecting the items of our State Legislative Platform.

Whether or not we are political, the reality is that the decisions affecting our lives are made in the Legislature. That makes our privilege of voting an obligation to vote what is right for women.

We hope you use this tool not only as you go to the polls, but in your communications with your representatives.

Included in this scorecard are the email and mailing addresses of all State Senators and Representatives, the district they serve, along with our State Legislative Platform.

The scorecard is set up with the name of the legislator with four (4) columns, one for each of our action items:

  • Employment and economic: equity for women in all areas of employment including achieving pay equity and the elimination of sex discrimination.
  • Health: research, funding and access to issues affecting women health including reproductive freedom, aging, equitable and affordable insurance coverage.
  • Education: equitable educational opportunities at all levels and in all areas of study.
  • Violence: end domestic violence and all other acts of violence against women.

Each legislator will have a grade point from A to F dependent on their stand on our issues. The Bill voted on will be listed on the side. To read the Bill, you can find them listed at www.legis.state.wi.us. Put in the Bill number under search and it will give you all the information on the bill and how the voting went.

As the new legislative session begins, we will be updating the scorecard to reflect the action taken. Check the site out often for changes.
